Date:
Discuss forests, flowers, and fires on a 6-mile, 3.5-hour hike on Meteor Trail in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, site of the tallest redwood in the Santa Cruz Mountains. A Big Basin docent leads this diverse hike, which passes mountain streams, oak woodlands, chaparral, riparian corridors and of course redwoods. Climb up to a rewarding ocean view (weather permitting). Though its exact location remains a secret, a 328-foot-tall redwood—the tallest in the Santa Cruz Mountains—is found on the Meteor Trail.
Bring water and snacks for this 3.5-hour ramble. Rain cancels.
Meet at Park Headquarters, 9 miles from Boulder Creek on Hwy 236. 10:30am. Free, but parking is $10.
