Explore the Night Sky

Date:

Sat, 06/28/2014 - 21:00

Delve into the mysteries of the night sky with the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History every fourth Saturday of the summer. Enter the vast universe of stars, planets and constellations and hear the stories that accompany each of those objects. Cosmic knowledge is always expanding!

This month the Museum partners with the UCSC Astronomy Club for the half-hour talk at the Museum, which will be followed by a drive up to the UCSC campus for stargazing. This Saturday's presentation is "The Lives and Deaths of Stars," by Justin Brown, a graduate student in Astronomy at UCSC. Says Justin:

"From suns to red giants to white dwarfs, the life cycle of stars is as fascinating as it is long. These gaseous behemoths provide most of the light humans can see in the sky and are the source of almost every element that makes up our planet. I'll talk about how stars both large and small are born, live, and die and discuss how astronomers have determined these life cycles even though we only live for a small fraction of a star's lifetime."

9pm-10:15pm. Register online here or call 420.6115 x 10. This event is free for museum members and $5 for the general public. Attendance is limited to 25, so don't delay!
